Initiating operations with one Stinson single-motor plane, TACA (“Central American Air Transportation”) was founded in 1938 as a cargo company.
1989 - 1995
Developing a strategic alliance with the flag airlines of Guatemala (AVIATECA), Costa Rica (LACSA), and Nicaragua (NICA), TACA consolidated operations between 1989 and 1995 under the name of GRUPO TACA, thereby transforming the company into one of the most efficient transportation systems in Latin America.
1998
Leading the greatest coordinated purchase in history of Airbus A-319 and A-320 aircraft, TACA initiated a full fleet renovation in 1998. Our Fleet
2001
With two important hubs already in Central America, an equivalent was added in Lima by establishing TACA Peru to service South America, thereby offering passengers an integrated network of routes covering the entire American continent. Routes & schedules
2004
With a record of 92% on-time arrivals, TACA serves 10 major cities in the United States, Toronto in Canada, Mexico City, all of the countries of Central America, and the most important business and tourist destinations in South America and the Caribbean
2005-2006
Looking forward on becoming passengers´ preferred airline, TACA implements, from inside to outside Customer service strategies, like, its initiative "TACA Spirit Renovation" and the TACA Heroes program, which looks forward to, nominate and congratulate employees that provide exceptional collaboration and/or service to our customers. 2008
In 2009, TACA undergoes a complete renewal of its brand image, a direct result of analysis, surveys and opinions from both clients and Company staff, seeking to attain the airline’s Vision: become the preferred airline of travelers in the Americas.
2010
Upon succesfully concluding regulatory and other antitrust approvals, Avianca and TACA shareholders have officially closed the deal for the creation of the new group and holding company. Upon closing of the transaction, the new group's senior managment team will combine the leadership of both companies into implementing an integral plan for controlling, promoting and strengthening the airlines that integrate Avianca and TACA; creating the most complete and comprehensive passanger and cargo transportation network in Latin America.
With te consolidation of this group the airlines will capitalize synergies in benefit of the clients, as well as the challenge the strengthen markets and provide more breadth and scale. As a result, this consolidation will be a facilitator for development in the different communities of the continent.
2012
AVIANCA-TACA Airlines has been recognized four times consecutively by Skytrax, one of the most respected world-wide passenger airline surveys, as the Best Airline for Central America, and the Caribbean and for its Service Excellence.
